My first week here in Sunderland
September 19th, 2006 by alisonchai My first day are on 15 September, luckily I am able switch to KLM so I am able to carry one hand luggage (11kg) and a laptop bag (10kg). Haha, I am able to carry about 14 kg more hand luggage than those who are using British Airway, but I have to pay RM500 more. I have made quite a lot of friends here at the airport, all going to
Sunderland . They are all very nice, but I can’t afford to remember all the names and looks. I heard from my flat mate that those who are using British Airway have to take out their shoes and Jacket to be check, both hand luggage and check luggage have to be check thoroughly, and I mean everyone with no exception.
On the next day on KLM flight, I cannot fall asleep since the footrest is very small. I only manage to fell asleep for about 2 hours in the 12 hours flight to
Amsterdam . I went to check out the view of
Amsterdam just outside the airport because I don’t have much time, just 4 hours of transit time. Since I have too heavy hand luggage when I reach
Newcastle my luggage wheel broke. Luckily a guy next to me is willing to carry my laptop bag for me.
GOSHHHHHHHHH, nooooooooo, my luggage didn’t come out at the airport. What am I going to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got 34.5 Kg of luggage made out of a small back and a big one. Those 2 bags cost about RM5000 because of my nutrition supplements and wool cloth and winter coats. My
Sunderland people who came to pick me up take me to make a report. The funny thing is that three of us sitting at the same role including Mee hung and the guy next to me lost their luggage. Three of us checking in differently, but not only we sit together on both flight, 3 of us lost our luggage.
When I reach The Precicnt, my hostel and went to rest at my room for a while and went shopping with Mee Hung and her friend, Jeannie. At the shopping center, Tesco we meet a
China Chinese daughter and mum asking for direction. Since I am a first year I so don’t know where. She is also studying as first year at the same Uni. An ANG MO notices us and introduces himself. So I met a senior and took us around shopping at cheaper place lol. They also help us carry the glossary lol. Thank god lol. We go back and cook together. People here are very nice and helpful lol. The next day was also the same lo, going shopping with some guys carrying our stuff. The good thing is my small bag arrive liaw lol but the big one is still gone. Everything expensive was inside the big one.
First day of Uni, kind of excited lol. We was kind of late to the lecture hall because we went to the wrong place. After class we went shopping again lol. I supposed u is wandering why I always went shopping; well it was because I got nothing. I need place to hang my cloth, table cloth, pots and pans, spoons and a dinner set. But most importantly foods. My friends however want to buy some cloths lol. I also buy a Mogan bath robe that cost me 25 pounds lol (about RM180) When I reach home, Hurrayyyyyyyyyyyyyy, my luggage arrive liaw with everything inside but my thermos is broken liaw lol.
Tuesday was almost the same as Monday, on weds I went to register and got a goodie bag with a 128 university lockable Tumbdrive.the afternoon; we were assigned into groups of 24 and smaller groups of 4. We got a presentation on Friday. Both today and yesterday are very cold because the wind is very strong lol. At night time, I went to my flat mate place to eat Moon cake lol. Haha, still be able to eat moon cake here, chocolate flavored one lol. After that, I Finnish my script for Friday, however I didn’t imagine that I will have presentation so early in semester lol.
On the next day, we went to make a bank account at Barclays Bank. We have to make an appointment first lol. So my account can only be open at 5 Oct group lol. At night I Finnish my presentation in PowerPoint all by my self, as usual. Because my group mate only wants to discussed it tomorrow since it was just an icebreaker of some sorts.
Haha, today I almost got late to my class because I need to discuses details of the presentation to my group mate. Luckily, I was able to find my class quite easily. My presentation was OK. I was kind of nervous with my voice shacking a little bit but my tutor says that was good lol. Gosshhh that was a relief. 4 more people wants to join in for dinner for the rest of the year but the kitchen have only 6 chairs, so I guess that one person will need to stand lol. I guessed that our food is too delicious lol until everyone wants too join. So now our food money will be divided into 7. We also decided that we would go to
Newcastle on Sunday. You know how do we decide that? We decided that by scissor and stone lol. My flat mate will bring us there.
